Shopping & money: Choosing & quality
Shop for goods, judge quality and handle returns in Thai. This second shopping topic moves from food markets to buying things — asking to ขอดู (have a look) or ชิม (taste), comparing ยี่ห้อ (brands) and คุณภาพ (quality), and weighing whether something is คุ้ม (good value) or just ของแท้ (genuine) versus fake. It covers asking for a different ไซส์ (size) or สี (colour), swapping something ชำรุด (damaged), checking a โปร (promotion), and politely saying ดูเฉยๆ (just looking). Its 30 sentences are recorded by native speakers and come with English translations and word-by-word notes, so the shopping vocabulary lands by ear.

Tasting before buying is normal at Thai food markets — ขอชิมหน่อย ('can I try a bit?') is welcomed, not cheeky. Other family words are used the same way: พี่ (phîi) older sibling; น้อง (náwng) younger sibling; ลุง (lung) uncle; ป้า (bpâa) aunt; น้า (náa) mother's younger sibling; ตา (dtaa) grandpa. คุณ (khun) in front makes any of them more polite: คุณป้า (khun bpâa).
