Asking yes or no

Thai turns a statement into a question by putting a word on the end, and which word you choose changes what you are actually asking. ไหม asks from scratch. หรือเปล่า presses for a straight answer. ใช่ไหม checks something you already believe. หรือยัง asks whether it has happened yet. And เหรอ reacts to what you have just been told.
