Fàak (ฝาก)

Fàak (ฝาก) has a couple of different uses — understand them by ear here. With a thing, it is leaving it in someone's care and expecting it back; with a verb, you are handing them the job instead — ฝากบอก is "pass on a message for me", ฝากซื้อ is "buy me one while you're out".

ฝาก = leave something in someone's care, expecting it back. Not the same as leaving something behind — the trust is the point.

My mother entrusted me to my aunt's care.
แม่/ mâae=motherฝาก/ fàak=entrustผม/ phǒm=meไว้/ wái=(keep)กับ/ gàp=withน้า/ náa=uncle/aunt (mother's younger sibling)
ฝาก works with people too: left in someone's care. กับ says who is looking after them.

⚠ ฝาก + a verb transfers a TASK instead of an object: 'could you do this for me'. ฝากบอก = pass on a message; ฝากซื้อ = buy it for me while you are out.

ฝากบอก is 'tell them for me', and ว่า brings in the message.

ฝากให้ + a person + a verb: asking someone to do it for you.

The English says 'leave', but the Thai is still ฝาก…ไว้: the desk is looking after it for you, and you expect it back.
