This first part of Social life & events covers the festivals — สงกรานต์ (Songkran water-splashing), ลอยกระทง (floating krathongs), ตรุษจีน (Chinese New Year), งานวัด (temple fairs), ยี่เป็ง (Chiang Mai's sky lanterns) and กินเจ (the vegetarian festival) — plus the year's personal milestones: วันเกิด (birthdays), ขึ้นบ้านใหม่ (housewarmings), รับปริญญา (graduation), คอนเสิร์ต (concerts), พลุ (fireworks) and family gatherings at ปีใหม่ (New Year).
