คุณป้า ('auntie', with the polite คุณ) is how Thais refer to an older woman they don't know — no relation is meant. Other family words are used the same way: พี่ (phîi) older sibling; น้อง (náwng) younger sibling; ลุง (lung) uncle; น้า (náa) mother's younger sibling; ยาย (yaai) grandma; ตา (dtaa) grandpa. คุณ (khun) in front makes any of them more polite: คุณลุง (khun lung).
