Describe your morning routine and rooms of the house in Thai. This first home topic covers waking up and getting ready — ตื่นนอน (wake up), อาบน้ำ (shower), แปรงฟัน (brush teeth) and แต่งตัว (get dressed) — then moves room by room through the ห้องนอน (bedroom), ห้องครัว (kitchen) and ห้องน้ำ (bathroom), out to the ระเบียง (balcony). Along the way it teaches everyday bathroom things like ผ้าเช็ดตัว (towel), ยาสีฟัน (toothpaste) and สบู่ (soap), with their classifiers. ผมตื่นนอนหกโมงเช้าครับ
I wake up at six in the morning.

I'd better go shower first.

Thais often shower twice a day, morning and evening, because of the heat.
น้ำจากฝักบัวไม่อุ่นเลยค่ะ
There's no warm water from the shower.

Many Thai homes have only cold-water showers or a small on-demand heater (เครื่องทำน้ำอุ่น); hot water isn't a given.

ชักโครก is the sit-down flush toilet; older or rural homes may have a squat toilet (ส้วมซึม) flushed by hand with a water scoop.

Don't forget to brush your teeth before bed.

แป๊บ / แป๊บเดียว ('a sec / just a moment') is everywhere in casual speech.

วันเว้นวัน is literally 'day-skip-day' = every other day (เว้น = to skip).

ห้องน้ำ literally 'water room' is the all-purpose, polite word for toilet/bathroom.
ห้องครัวเล็กแต่ใช้ได้ค่ะ
The kitchen's small but it works.
ห้องครัว = kitchen เล็ก = small แต่ = but ใช้ได้ = does the job ค่ะ = polite(f)
ใช้ได้ = 'usable / it'll do' — an understated way to say something's good enough.
แขกใช้ทั้งห้องนั่งเล่นทั้งสวนได้เลยนะคะ
Guests can use both the living room and the garden.
แขก = guest ใช้ = use ทั้ง = both ห้องนั่งเล่น = living room ทั้ง = and สวน = garden ได้เลย = feel free นะ = (softener) คะ = polite(f)
ทั้ง…ทั้ง… brackets two things = 'both … and …'.
ตอนเย็นผมนั่งเล่นที่ระเบียงครับ
In the evening I relax on the balcony.
ตอนเย็น = evening ผม = I(m) นั่งเล่น = relax ที่ = at ระเบียง = balcony ครับ = polite(m)
นั่งเล่น is literally 'sit-play' = to relax / lounge — the living room ห้องนั่งเล่น is named for it.
ก่อนนอนผมชอบดูทีวีครับ
I like watching TV before bed.
ก่อนนอน = before bed ผม = I(m) ชอบ = like ดู = watch ทีวี = TV ครับ = polite(m)
พอถึงบ้านผมก็อาบน้ำทันทีครับ
As soon as I get home, I shower right away.
พอ = as soon as ถึงบ้าน = get home ผม = I(m) ก็ = then อาบน้ำ = shower ทันที = right away ครับ = polite(m)
พอ…ก็… pairs a trigger with an immediate result: 'as soon as … then …'.
ก่อนนอนผมปิดไฟ จากนั้นล็อกประตูครับ
Before bed I turn off the lights, then lock the door.

If you're cold, there's a blanket in the cupboard.

ขึ้นเตียง is literally 'go up onto the bed' = get into bed; กำลังจะ = 'about to'.

Please close the window — it's cold outside.

กุญแจบ้านอยู่กับคุณใช่ไหมครับ
You've got the house key, right?

…ใช่ไหม turns a statement into 'right?' — checking something you're fairly sure of.

แปรงสีฟัน (toothbrush) and แปรงฟัน (to brush teeth) share แปรง = brush.
เปิดผ้าม่านหน่อยนะคะ เพื่อให้ห้องสว่าง
Open the curtains a bit so the room's brighter.
เปิด = open ผ้าม่าน = curtains หน่อย = (please) นะ = (softener) คะ = polite(f) เพื่อให้ = so that ห้อง = the room สว่าง = is bright
เพื่อ(ให้) = 'so that / in order to' — it marks the purpose.
กระจกบานนี้มีฝุ่นเกาะ มองหน้าไม่ชัดเลยค่ะ
This mirror's dusty — I can't see my face clearly.
กระจก = mirror บาน = (classifier) นี้ = this มี = has ฝุ่น = dust เกาะ = cling to / stick to มอง = see หน้า = face ไม่ = not ชัด = clear เลย = at all ค่ะ = polite(f)
บาน is the classifier for flat framed things — mirrors, windows, doors.
ใช้สบู่ก้อนไหนก็ได้นะจ้ะ
Use whichever bar of soap, any's fine.
ใช้ = use สบู่ = soap ก้อน = (bar) ไหน = which ก็ได้ = any's fine นะ = (softener) จ้ะ = (friendly)
ก้อน is the classifier for lumps/bars (soap, ice, sugar); ก้อนไหนก็ได้ = 'whichever, any's fine'.
ที่บ้านติดเครื่องกรองน้ำไว้ จะได้มีน้ำสะอาดไว้ดื่มค่ะ
We've got a water filter installed, so there's clean drinking water.

Tap water in Thailand generally isn't drunk straight, so homes either fit a water filter or buy bottled drinking water.

The water heater in the bathroom's broken; I've had cold showers for days.

Thai homes rarely have central hot water; instead a small wall-mounted เครื่องทำน้ำอุ่น heats water on demand in the bathroom.

Water pressure's been low lately; the pump must have a problem.

Many Thai houses store water in a tank fed by a pump because mains pressure is weak and intermittent — so low flow often points to the pump.
