Thai splits 'hair' into two words: ผม is only the hair on your head, while ขน is hair anywhere else on the body — and on animals.

Here คือ isn't the textbook 'is/means' — in speech it opens an explanation, like 'the thing is…' or '…'cause', softening the reason that follows.
