เรา (rao) is 'we', and in casual speech can also mean 'I' — common among friends, especially women. พวกเรา (phûak rao) is 'we, all of us'.

งานบุญ are Buddhist merit-making occasions (ordinations, house blessings, temple fairs). They're collective by nature — neighbours pitch in with cooking, setting up and hosting, not just attending.

ลงแขก is the old reciprocal-labour custom: villagers take turns working each other's fields (or building each other's houses) for free, repaid in kind rather than cash — a cornerstone of rural community life now fading as farming mechanises.

น้ำใจ (literally 'water of the heart') is a prized Thai social value — spontaneous generosity and consideration for others, shown through small unasked-for acts rather than words.

Most villages have a communal ศาลา — an open-sided pavilion used for meetings, ceremonies and shelter — built and maintained by the residents themselves.

หมู่บ้านจัดสรร is a developed, often gated suburban estate (the same word หมู่บ้าน as 'village', but a modern subdivision). Estates and condos almost always run a LINE group as the default channel for notices, security alerts and neighbourly coordination.

The ผู้ใหญ่บ้าน is the elected head of an administrative village — a real, salaried local-government post. People genuinely turn to them first for disputes, paperwork and coordinating with officials.

A กำนัน is the elected head of a ตำบล (subdistrict), one tier above the village headmen who fall under them — the next rung of Thailand's local administrative ladder.
