Thai has 44 consonants; as for vowels, there are many forms too.

Thai has 44 consonant letters (a couple now obsolete) and writes vowels with marks set before, after, above or below the consonant — which is why a vowel can take หลายรูป (many forms).

Here เลย links cause to effect — 'the teacher is strict, so…'. That's a different job from the เลย that intensifies (สอบได้เต็มเลย, 'full marks, totally'); same word, two roles.
