A ตึกแถว is a narrow multi-storey shophouse — a shop or workshop on the ground floor with living space above — lining the streets of most Thai towns.

Thai has three words where English just says 'flat': คอนโด (condo) are units you buy, อพาร์ตเมนต์ (apartments) are rented buildings, and แฟลต (flats) are older, cheaper walk-ups.
